Living close to agriculture was found to significantly increase the risk of a mother having a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). 465 children with ASD were compared to 7,000 control children in California. Living distance from food crops using pesticides was measured. Researchers then determined the mother's pesticide exposure for each 30 day window throughout pregnancy using mandatory state reported pesticide application data.
