Based on a scenario where the chemical is spilled into an excess of water (at least 5 fold excess of water), half of the maximum theoretical yield of Hydrogen Chloride gas will be created in 1.8 minutes.
Studies utilizing synthetic molecules that resemblenatural GSLs provide important information that is not availablefrom studies utilizing molecules from natural sources. In thepresent study, to elucidate the inhibitory effects of thechloro-derivatives of GM3 on EGFR activation, a simple andefficient synthetic route was developed for the preparation ofmonochloro- and dichloro-GM3. The key step is a highlyregioselective and stereoselective sialylation from a suitablyprotected lactoside diol with a sialyl xanthate, to exclusivelyprovide the α-sialyl trisaccharide at a good yield. Selectivehydrolysis of the -acetyl group of GM3 was achieved underbasic conditions (0.1 M KOH, 80°C) to yield key intermediate 3(), from which the twochloro-derivatives were prepared.
Our previous studies have shown that: (i) GM3inhibits EGFR activation through carbohydrate-to-carbohydrateinteraction; (ii) GM3 interacts with -linked glycanscarrying multiple GlcNAc termini carried by EGFR; and (iii) suchinteraction is the molecular mechanism whereby GM3 inhibits EGFRactivation (,). Studies are in progress to determinewhether monochloro- and dichloro-GM3 bind more strongly than GM3 to-linked glycans carrying multiple GlcNAc termini.
The current Order applies to activities involving, in any one calendar year, more than 1 000 kg of the substance as a component in polyurethane foam, as well as other activities involving, in any one calendar year, more than 100 kg of the substance. Use as a stabilizer in benzyl chloride is excluded.
