ISPR support to the 35th Annual Midwest/Southeast Photosynthesis Meeting is coming from ISPR membership subscriptions. Please do not forget to renew your ISPR memberships, or become members. ISPR membership in 2010 will qualify you for discounted registration for PS2010 in Beijing in August 2010.
Contributions on all aspects of photosynthesis are invited. This has always been a great meeting for information exchange, student and post-doc participation, and relaxation.
Carbon dioxide is used by plants during photosynthesis to make sugars, and is emitted during respiration by plants, animals, fungi and microorganisms that depend either directly or indirectly on plants for food. Amounts of carbon dioxide are emitted from volcanoes and other geothermal processes such as hot springs and geysers and by the dissolution of carbonates in crustal rocks. Carbon dioxide is also generated as a by-product of the combustion of fossil fuels or the burning of vegetable matter like , among other chemical processes.
Spring was late in arriving, and several feet of unseasonable ice and snow continued to shut out the sunlight and inhibit early photosynthesis. This combined with the oxygen-robbing breakdown of plant life on the bottom brought the crappies up—17 feet under our boots, in 32 feet of water. The fishing was so easy we experimented with various lures to determine which ones the crappies wouldn’t hit. In the process, we struck the mother lode.
