There are differences of opinion concerning the morality of euthanasia; however, I conclude that physician-assisted suicide of the terminally ill is morally acceptable because not only is it permissible to kill terminally ill patients but also the goals...
Russ Roberts: Well, I'm going to quote Irving Fisher, who I used to like until I read your book. I used to think Irving Fisher was just--I mean, he's a wonderful writer; he had a lot of good ideas about interest rates and their relationship to inflation which I found useful thinking about these things. He wrote--again, early part of the 20th century and famously lost money during the Great Depression, unprepared for that event; always entertaining for non-economists to point those things out. But, his social attitudes were rather unpleasant. Again, a quote from the book:
... social science experts gave elitism a new form and rationale in the Progressive Era, one expanded on by Irving Fisher. The United States had abandoned laissez-faire, Fisher said, out of recognition that "the world consisted of two classes--the educated and the ignorant--and it is essential for progress that the former should be allowed to dominate the latter."And that--there are many other things Fisher said that were worse than that. But I wanted to use that example--I mean, it's a perfect example of the justification for why experts should be in charge to run other people's lives. And I want to ask you: that attitude of course remains today in many forms among economists and others in power. How much do you attribute simply to the economists' desire to have more power? So, there are many, many quotes in the book from economists justifying an expanded role for the state. But it's an expanded role for . So, it's a kind of awkward form of public intellectualism. And it remains so to me to this day.
Teen who feels like committing suicide are the ones that are hurting the most when they are talking about suicide, don’t just ignore them, they need someone to love them, care for them because they feel worthless, powerless, and helpless.
No music can lead teens to end their lives but when a friend or your child is constantly listening to suicide kind of music then there is a change that he or she is taking about suicide.
There are some factors that protect teens from suicide and they are mental health services, family and community support, therapy treatments and there are some more help lines.
Russ Roberts: "Yeah. The Race Suicide idea is really rampant among the American Right today--this idea that America needs to be white, or pure, or somehow our national destiny is going to be contaminated by immigrants of certain kinds because they are not capable of becoming part of a democracy, part of the workforce, whatever it is."
It's precisely that last statement that we disagree about. Please point out to me a single example of a high trust society that wasn't burdened with a central government that got ugly. So far, all the examples you have cited, where things got ugly, were examples of low trust societies with high levels of social dysfunction and an observed inability to form an effective central government due to that low level of trust and high level of dysfunction.

One curiosity is that, although Eberstadtdid not die until 1969, six years after Rogow’s book was published and 20 yearsafter Forrestal’s death, no one seems to have any sort of formal statement fromEberstadt directly about these matters, including Forrestal’s supposed suicideattempt at Hobe Sound or his talk of suicide.
Hello there. The past is important in contextualizing the future. In other words, the past is an important thing to remember so history will not repeat its barbaric bogoted and horrendous past. Secondly, Black people in American are STILL systematically disadvantaged even today 2015. For example, as of today 2015, if a neighborhood is more than 10% black the property value goes down. No matter how good the community or schools, the very presence of Black people according to real estate and redlining keeps property values low as compared to nieghborhoods with less than 10%. Nieghborhoods jobs and resources are strategically kept segregated only benefiting those with white hues. That is a racist system we have today. The media also keeps those who are not black afraid of a group of people who are black. The media has done such a great job of this that black individuals has began to believe such horrible mockery. Some black individuals have internalized 600+ years of hate and derogatory degradation thus making the negetive media images a self fulfilling prophecy. Feeling of worthlessness and inferiority will make any group of people especially the young black people coming from broken home act out in an angry and violent manner. As a Black 26 yr old woman it is my personal duty to continue to believe in myself and my people. It is not my job however to make people stop hating us blindly and ignorantly. I cannot be concerned about things i cannot change. I am an individual. What i will do is say pride is petty and God the almighty is not impartial to me or my people due to our skin color and media lies. God the almight see goodness and purpose in the hardships of my people. I am not hereto change minds just to add another more uptodate perspective on why my people are angry and out of control. I will not make excuses because there aren’t any. Just know that we are only 110 out of slavery and during that time we have been marching and fighting for simple human civil rights. To God be the glory.
This false presumption has been disproven time and again by the practical working-out of euthanasia and assisted suicide in locales where it has been legalized.
There are two problems here - the definition of "terminal" and the changes that have already taken place to extend euthanasia or assisted suicide to those who aren't "terminally ill.
