Raspberry Pi is a single-board computer developed in the University of Cambridge which has been the focus of a tremendous attention by the academic community along the past months. Its main purpose is to offer a credit-card sized fully functional computer for a incredible small price: 25 USD. The design is based on a Broadcom BCM2835 system on a chip (SoC), which includes an ARM1176JZF-S 700 MHz processor (quite similar to the A4 processor equipping iPhone), a VideoCore IV GPU, 256 Megabytes of RAM, two USB ports and a 10/100 Ethernet controller. This rather simple but quite efficient configuration is able to boot (from an SD card) most Linux distributions (e.g. Debian, Fedora, etc.) and has been particularly targeted to implement multimedia applications (e.g.: media centers) and web-services. Preliminary demos of the board showed it running the LXDE desktop on Debian, Quake 3 at 1080p and Full HD MPEG-4 video over HDMI.

These ‘newborns’ – observed as they appeared nearly 13 billion years ago – spun like a whirlpool, similar to our own Milky Way. This is the first time that it has been possible to detect movement in galaxies at such an early point in the Universe’s history.
